David Brewer (b. March 7, 1971) is an American attorney, outdoorsman, soldier, and politician. He is a Christian and lives in Summit, Pike County, Mississippi, with his wife, Deidre.  He is a veteran of the Gulf War, a former Nuclear Missile Launch Officer, former Pike County Prosecutor ('08-22) and he took the bench as Pike County Court Judge in 2023.

BIOGRAPHY:

 

In 1989, when David Lee Brewer graduated from McComb High School and left this community to attend the United States Air Force Academy, he vowed he would return to his home one day. Seventeen years later, after serving his country, attending law school and briefly practicing law in Jackson, MS, in 2006, he did return and did so with the desire to help make McComb and Southwest Mississippi a better place to live by stepping into the judicial system as a public servant for the people of our area.

 

David Brewer, son of the late Roy Brewer and Ganeath Brewer Daniel of McComb and step son of Sam Daniel of McComb, began his secondary education in the North Pike School System and later transferred to and graduated from McComb High School. He enrolled in McComb High School during the spring semester of his sophomore year, he became very actively involved in both the advanced placement academic classes and extra-curricular activities offered at McComb.

 

During his junior year at McComb High School, Brewer was a member of the successful Mock Trial Team which placed third in the State, he was a member of the Forensics Club and served as a manager for the MHS football and baseball teams. He also received the Geometry Award, was inducted into the National Honor Society and was Captain of McComb High School's first Odyssey of the Mind team which placed second in the State. Though his team only obtained second place honors at that competition, they received the Creativity Award for project design recognition. While not engaged in sports, school or extracurricular activities, Brewer spent his time working construction and doing service work for his family business and was actively involved in church activities.

 

During the summer between his junior and senior years, Mr. Brewer was selected as first alternate to the Mississippi Governor's School but deferred attending in favor of participating in the American Legion's Mississippi Boy's State, where he was elected to the office of State Auditor and returned the next two summers to serve as a counselor.

 

Brewer's senior year was no less remarkable. He played football, was elected and served as Student Body President, and won the Mock Trial and Odyssey of the Mind State Championships. He and his team members went on to compete at the National Mock Trial Competition in Louisville, Kentucky. Brewer's Odyssey of the Mind team traveled to Boulder, Colorado where they won the World Championship in creative problem solving - a first for any team from Pike County and a well deserved honor for Brewer, who was instrumental in the creation of the Odyssey of the Mind program at McComb High School. In recognition of his accomplishments in extracurricular activities, the students and faculty selected Mr. Brewer to the Hall of Fame for the 1988-1989 school year.

 

In addition to the forgoing, Mr. Brewer began the application process to the United States Air Force Academy, the Navel Academy and Westpoint during his junior year. In the Spring of 1989, Congressman Wayne Dowdy appointed Brewer to the United States Air Force Academy and he also received a general Congressional Appointment to the United States Military Academy at Westpoint. Insofar as the Air Force Academy was his university of choice, he declined the Westpoint appointment and withdrew himself from consideration for the Navel Academy in favor of receiving his education and serving his country in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

 

While attending the Air Force Academy, Brewer was involved as a manager and student assistant to the Falcon Football program, he served as Headquarter's Flight Commander of his squadron and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Factors Engineering.

 

Upon graduating, Lt. Brewer was stationed at Vandenburg Air Force Base, California, for training as a Missile Combat Crew Commander and later served as a Deputy Missile Combat Crew Commander (Nuclear Missile Launch Officer) in the 740th Missile Launch Squadron in Minot, North Dakota. As a Launch Officer, he was primarily responsible for ten on-alert Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles as well as an operational launch control center and his duties included: initiating launch actions for up to 150 nuclear warheads (if directed to do so) on preselected strategic targets; sharing responsibility for day-to-day management of personnel, equipment, safety and security of a multi-million dollar missile complex; and, providing backup capability for the command of the 91st Missile Wing in emergency and wartime environments. Brewer is a veteran of the Gulf War, having served 18 months in support of that campaign.

 

In 1995, Brewer resigned his commission in favor of attending law school. In the fall of 1995, Mr. Brewer was accepted to and enrolled in the University of Mississippi School of Law where he received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1998. Following his graduation from Law School, Mr. Brewer was accepted to and enrolled in the University of Mississippi Graduate School where he earned and received his Masters of Social Science in Sociology and Psychology in 2000. During his tenure at the University of Mississippi, Brewer was also able to balance the demands of higher education with extracurricular activities as a member of the Ole Miss Cheerleading Squad for three years.

 

After completing his studies and a brief clerkship, Brewer sat for and was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in the Fall of 2001, after which, he began working toward returning to his hometown of McComb, Mississippi. He first moved to Jackson, where he was a partner in the Law Offices of Neyland and Brewer. In 2005, Brewer began a regular commute to Pike County to serve as the Pike County Youth Court Prosecutor after being appointed to the position by the Pike County Board of Supervisors at the recommendation of Pike County Judge John Price.

 

The appointment as Pike County Youth Court Prosecutor in 2005 afforded Brewer the opportunity to assist and protect local children who were neglected and/or abused and served as a catalyst to his return home. That same year, Brewer and his wife, Deidre, moved to McComb and David opened Brewer Law Firm, PLLC, his private practice. While continuing his appointed service to the County, Brewer also represented citizens of the local community and abroad in civil and criminal litigation.

 

In 2007, Brewer was appointed by the Mayor and Board of Selectmen as the McComb City Prosecutor and held that position until 2018. In conjunction with his duties as the Youth Court Prosecutor and City Prosecutor, Brewer was elected as the Pike County Attorney in 2008 and served until the end of 2022. He also served as interim Tylertown City Prosecutor, Walthall County Attorney and Walthall County Youth Court Prosecutor from May 2009 to May 2010. Brewer has also, on occasion, been called to serve as special prosecutor on various legal matters in Lincoln, Amite and Franklin Counties as well as serving as Special Youth Court Referee in Walthall County in 2018. Mr. Brewer was the Secretary, Vice President and President of the Southwest Mississippi Bar Association during 2008, 2009 and 2010, respectively. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and in 2015, was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was elected to his current position as Pike County Court Judge in the general election of 2022 and took the bench in January of 2023.

 

He is a former member of the McComb Lions Club and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason with lifetime masonic memberships in McComb City Lodge #382 and Circle Lodge #638 in Madison. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Summit, Mississippi, a Shriner, a 27 year member of the Mississippi American Legion, Founder of the Ole Miss Cheerleading Alumni Association, a member of the Mississippi Prosecutor's Association, a former member of the National College of DUI Defense, a member of MENSA and a lifetime member of the United States Air Force Academy Association of Graduates. David Lee Brewer also began serving on the United States Air Force Academy Bolt Brotherhood (Football) Alumni Association Board as Director of Mentoring in 2021.

 

David Lee Brewer has dedicated his life to helping the people of this nation as well as the citizens, families and children of Southwest Mississippi and McComb. Brewer believes his calling is “to improve the quality of life and sense of security of our local families, the community and Southwest Mississippi” and explains his justification for public service by noting, “I was born and raised in Pike County and my parents families have lived in Pike County, Mississippi for close to two centuries. My roots are here, my duties are to the citizens of this area and there is no place I'd rather be.”
